What is the purpose of a Pre-School Committee?
Why do we have a committee and what do they do?
Rainbow’s End Pre-School is a registered Charity, and therefore needs a committee of at least three officers to run. The pre-school parent led committee is responsible for the overall management and smooth running of the setting. This can mean anything from organising a fundraising event to negotiating with the parish council. The committee is the employer of staff in the pre school and so has overall responsibility for recruiting, training and developing staff, paying their salaries and managing their contracts.
The committee also has responsibility for developing business plans, managing daily accounts and working with staff, ensuring the setting follows appropriate health and safety, risk assessment, insurance and first aid guidance.

Fund Raising
As a charity, it is a crucial part of the Committee. Money raised from annual events such as Bingo, the Nativity, Sport's Day and Quiz Nights have paid for the pre-school garden, safety equipment, the reading corner, sensory toys and many, many more.
Parents are encouraged to play an active role in the Committee and help to fundraising events. Monies raised is pumped straight back into the pre-school for the immediate benefit of your children.

General Committee Duties
How do I join the committee and how much would I need to do?

Much of the work of the committee is fun and a great excuse to get out in the evening – building new partnerships with parents, coming up with fundraising ideas, getting exciting plans off the ground, generally mucking in.
As an officer there are some specific duties that need to be done, but they do not take up a huge amount of time all the time, as a committee member you can get involved as much or as little as you are able to.
Benefits and opportunities for new parents. Research shows clear benefits for children when parents become actively involved in their child’s learning and developing. Volunteering for the committee offers an ideal opportunity to be more involved. Parents also find benefits for themselves including meeting other parents, updating skills and learning new ones (which is a great thing to put on a CV), as well as putting something back into the local community.
